Natural Bridge State Park

On September 24, 2016, Natural Bridge became Virginia’s 37th state park.  The parkland had been privately held by a single owner.  This geologic wonder is Rockbridge County’s namesake and traditionally its top tourist attraction.  The formation of Natural Bridge, millions of years ago, is the remnant of an underground tunnel created by what is now called Cedar Creek. Monacan Indians were native to this area. George Washington surveyed the site in 1750, and Thomas Jefferson purchased it in 1774.
